Construct, assemble, maintain, and repair metal Plant equipment and pipework
Lay out plate, sheet steel, or other heavy metal, and locate and mark bending and cutting lines, using protractors, compasses, and drawing instruments or templates.
Locate and mark reference points for columns or plates on Equipment foundations, following blueprints and using straight edges, squares, transits, and measuring instruments.
Position, align, and secure structural parts and related assemblies to equipment frames, tanks, or vats of pressure vessels, following blueprints.
Determining the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
Work from rough sketches and specifications created by designers and draughtsman
Study blueprints and drawings and taking measurements to plan, layout, determine locations, relationships, and dimensions of parts.
Setting up components for welding according to specifications
Ensure weld surface preparation, pre-weld as per Welding Procedure Specification.
Positions workpieces and clamps together or assembles in jigs or fixtures in place for the welder.
Reviews work procedures, or work orders in preparation for welding.
Shape and fabricate parts, such as stacks, uptakes, chutes, conveyors, tables, stands etc, in order to adapt equipment and piping to premises, using heavy-metalworking machines such as brakes, rolls, and drill presses.
Inspects finished work piece for conformance to specifications and WPS and Drawing on weld size.
QUALIFYING ATTRIBUTES
Qualifications
Qualified Boilermaker with a Trade Certificate.
This qualification could have been obtained through either a formal apprenticeship (section 13) or Section 28 of the Manpower Training Act.
Experience
Minimum 2 Years’ experience in a related field post Apprenticeship

Knowledge
